The Curious Skidipeli Opens at Pasaati Shopping Centre
30.9.2026 | What happens when an exhibition and a game are combined? The result is Merkillinen Skidipeli (The Curious Skidipeli), an interactive exhibition experience where visitors move around a giant game board as the game pieces themselves.
The opening of the Merkillinen Skidipeli exhibition will be celebrated at Pasaati Shopping Centre on 1 October, when the public will have their first opportunity to explore the exhibition game. Designed for visitors of all ages, the exhibition will remain open until 12 December, and admission is free.
In Merkillinen Skidipeli, an urban game world is combined with wordplay, visual humour and media education. Players roll a dice and move across the game board from one challenge to the next, exploring signs, meanings and media phenomena from a child’s perspective. Along the way, visitors can, for example, try producing a news broadcast in the Tuutti Studio or run their own newspaper kiosk. The activities encourage observation, creativity and media literacy. The game can be played individually or together with others.
All exhibition content is available in Finnish, Swedish and English, making the experience accessible to a wide audience.
“Merkillinen Skidipeli invites visitors to explore the surrounding media landscape through play, hands-on activities and discovery. At the same time, it offers an opportunity to examine messages and meanings from a child’s perspective,” says exhibition curator Satu Antinniemi from the Laivuri Children’s Cultural Centre.
A Concept Created by the Skidit Collective
Merkillinen Skidipeli has been created in cooperation with the Skidit Collective. The collective, which combines art and events, is known for popular concepts such as the Skidit Disco and Skidit Festival. The original Skidipeli has toured libraries across Finland in recent years, and now its curious new version arrives in Kotka at Pasaati Shopping Centre.
Guided Visits Available for Groups
Guided group visits can be booked for the exhibition. Visits include an introduction to the exhibition game as well as hands-on activities and challenges completed in small groups.
