Professional tennis in Kotka

12.5.2025 | The women’s ITF professional tournament Soluni Ladies Open will be played in Kotka from May 12th to 18th, 2025, for the first time. The tournament will be held outdoors on clay courts, with a total prize money of 15,000 dollars.
The competition brings women’s professional tennis to Kotka for the first time. Among the Finnish players in the main draw, based on rankings, are Clarissa Blomqvist (WTA-8686) and Ella Haavisto (WTA-938).
In addition, wild cards to the singles main draw have been granted to Milla Kotamäki, Stella Remander, and Venla Ahti. The tournament organizer has a fourth wild card available, which will be awarded later.
Ahti, who hails from Kotka, will get to enjoy a professional tournament on her home court. It will be a unique experience for the 24-year-old local.
“I clearly remember the men’s professional tournaments in Kotka more than 10 years ago and how excited I was by that international atmosphere. I still love that aspect when touring ITF events, but at the same time I’ve dreamed of a home tournament and that cozy feeling of playing on your own courts. Of course, you still have to play hard – the ‘home court advantage’ doesn’t give you much at this level. I’m really looking forward to the matches, it’s going to be a special week!” says Ahti.
Soluni Ladies Open kicks off a two-week stretch of tennis in Kotka, as the men’s ITF professional tournament Kotka Open will be played the following week from May 19th to 25th.
Tournament director Pasi Ahti is pleased with the return of professional tennis to Kotka.
“It is a joy and an honor to organize both men’s and, for the first time, also women’s professional tennis tournaments in Kotka after a break of more than 10 years. In the previous Kotka tournaments, players came from all over the world and many left with great summer memories of this seaside city.
