Karhula public swimming pool will reopen after a partial renovation on May 19

6.5.2025 | The approximately year-long partial renovation of the Karhula public swimming pool is nearing completion.
The pool will open on Monday, May 19, the same day a two-week maintenance closure begins at the Katariina outdoor swimming pool in preparation for the summer season. As a result, contrary to previous expectations, there will be no interruption in swimming opportunities at Kotka’s swimming pools.
The main focus of the Karhula renovation has been the complete replacement of the tiling and waterproofing structures of the main pool. In addition, extensive earthworks were carried out outside the building at the beginning of the project to extend the building’s lifespan and improve moisture and waterproofing, and some of the interior surfaces, such as those in the gyms, were partially repaired.
The sauna facilities damaged in last spring’s fire have also been rebuilt during the project. The total cost of the partial renovation amounts to approximately €2 million.
Throughout May, Karhula swimming hall’s daily opening hours will follow the schedule of the Katariina facility during its maintenance closure. When the outdoor pool opens for the summer season on Monday, June 2, Karhula will switch to the previously decided summer opening hours.
Note! Karhula swimming hall will be closed on Friday, May 23 due to staff training.
