An exciting week for Kymi Sinfonietta: video game music, pop hits, and a concert in an observation tower.

12.10.2026 | Kymi Sinfonietta opens new ground in Kotka on Wednesday, 14 October at 6:30 PM at Satama Areena. The SCORE video game music concert is a symphonic experience that transports audiences to epic adventures and mythical worlds. The orchestra brings beloved game soundtracks to life with the powerful sound of a full symphony orchestra. The concert experience, including its visual elements, has been created in collaboration with Xamk’s Cybersecurity and Game Technologies Research Unit, Normogames, and Xamk students. The evening will be crowned by outstanding performances from soprano Marika Hölttä and British conductor Gabriella Teychenné.
On Thursday, 15 October at 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM, Kymi Sinfonietta will take music to new heights with its Like Dust in the Sky concerts at the Haukkavuori Observation Tower. The orchestra’s wind trio will explore and showcase the tower’s exceptional acoustics through a programme ranging from mystical soundscapes to familiar melodies from films and video games. Audiences will enjoy music from films such as Howl’s Moving Castle and Mulan, as well as games including The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. The programme features works by composers such as Philip Glass, Hildegard von Bingen, John Cage, and Joe Hisaishi. The concert lasts approximately 40 minutes, and afterwards the audience will have the opportunity to visit the observation deck and enjoy the surrounding views. Performers are Michael Lawrenson (oboe and cor anglais), Jussi Uuksulainen (clarinet and bass clarinet), and Samuel Rouleau (bassoon, contrabassoon, and ocarina). Admission is free, but capacity is limited to 30 people per concert.
The third production of the week is the eagerly anticipated From Mozart to Avicii, now returning in a completely new format. Following its great popularity, the concert series continues in collaboration with the Kotka City Theatre, with performances on Friday, 16 October at 6:00 PM and Saturday, 17 October at 1:00 PM on the theatre’s main stage.
The refreshed programme promises to be, if possible, even more entertaining than before, with an added touch of theatrical suspense. This versatile concert takes audiences on a musical journey from classical masterpieces to some of today’s best-known pop hits. Unexpected arrangements and infectious energy tie the programme together, showcasing the remarkable versatility of the ensemble.
