Air quality in October was good.
6.11.2025 | The air in Kotka was of good quality for most of October. The levels of inhalable particles and fine particles remained clearly below the current standards.
Inhalable particles (PM10) were at a low level. Daily PM10 concentrations ranged from 4 to 15 µg/m³, while the current daily limit value is 50 µg/m³ (may be exceeded up to 35 times per year).
The EU’s new daily limit value, to be achieved by 2030, is 45 µg/m³ (may be exceeded up to 18 times per year), and the WHO’s guideline daily value is 45 µg/m³ (may be exceeded up to 3 times per year). Of these standards, the WHO guideline was exceeded once at Kotkansaari during the January–October measurement period.
Air quality was also classified as good for fine particles (PM2.5). Their daily concentrations ranged from 1 to 8 µg/m³, while the WHO guideline daily value is 15 µg/m³. From January to October 2025, the WHO guideline was exceeded a total of five times at the Kotkansaari measurement station. WHO recommends that the guideline should not be exceeded more than three days per year. The EU’s future daily limit, to be achieved by 2030 (25 µg/m³, may be exceeded up to 18 times per year), has not been exceeded so far.
