Traffic at the Port of HaminaKotka is experiencing strong growth

6.5.2025 | A total of 4,793,471 tonnes of goods passed through the Port of HaminaKotka between January and April, marking an 18.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. While traffic is showing strong growth, it is important to note that the five-week port strikes in spring last year resulted in unusually low comparison figures.

Exports grew by 28.2 percent. The largest increases were seen in liquid bulk (72.8%), dry bulk (47.7%), pulp (36.3%), sawn timber (35.2%), and paper (26.2%). On the export side, decreases were recorded in general cargo (-31.2%) and the category “other goods” (-52.3%).

Imports remained at last year’s level during the review period (+0.3%). The most significant increases in imports were in dry bulk (+81.0%), general cargo (+17.6%), and liquid bulk (+6.5%). In contrast, imports of roundwood declined by 16.0%, and “other goods” by 9.3%.

Transit traffic increased by 40.5 percent. Domestic traffic, which is minor in volume, decreased by 57.6 percent. Container handling rose by 35.6 percent compared to a year ago.

A total of 752 vessels called at the port, which is 17.3 percent more than in the same period last year.

A more accurate year-on-year comparison will be possible after Midsummer, once the full impact of last year’s strikes is spread out over more months.
